A day with Justin

Justin joined me on a course back in June. Here's what Justin had to say about his experience:

Name: Justin Tweed

Course: 3 Star White Water Training and Assessment

As an existing UKCC level 1 coach it had been a while since I had been the student, so I was a little unsure what to expect, and perhaps little nervous. I need not have worried, Paul's laid back, friendly personality and conversational approach to coaching us was great, putting us at ease from the outset. He is very clear, and patient when things don't go to plan, even when someone takes an impromptu swim. He identified and employed the guided discovery method of coaching, which for me is ideal, it's the way I learn best. Although my confidence took a slight knock on the second morning after a daft mistake on my part and a slightly cold swim, he kept me going, and before long it was forgotten, confidence back, and eager as ever.

Whilst on the course, Paul identified the level we were at and gave us the opportunity to develop past the 3 star standard, inviting us to ask questions and coach our skills even further, encouraging us to try different methods, use strokes in new ways and learn and use new ones.

If I was asked what Paul could do to improve his courses I could only say from my perspective "Absolutely nothing", Paul ranks amongst the best coaches I have watched coach and been coached by. Not only did I develop my personal paddling skills, I also learned a lot about coaching.

Would I recommend Paul to others? Yes, without any hesitation. I had already recommended him to other paddlers before the weekend course had even finished. I have no doubt that I will be doing further courses with Paul in the future.

Many thanks for a great weekend.

If you'd like to develop your skills and progress just like Justin has then I have a wide range of courses to suit or alternatively contact me and we can put together a specific programme tailored to you.

All the best and happy paddling!
