Welcome...and my journey as a coach so far

Well...here's my new blog... I'll try and keep you all up to date as much as I can with developments, courses and events as and when I can! I thought I'd start on a few thoughts relating to my coaching development recently....

I decided a few years ago to not persue the old BCU coaching qualifications any further and instead wait for the new UKCC scheme to kick in and start from scratch again. After going back to basics and completing my UKCC Level 1 Coach status a few years ago, progressing through my UKCC Level 2 has given me the skills to run more paddler centric sessions. I am a great fan of the UKCC Scheme and I feel more equiped than ever before to help coach and develop other padders in a moving water environment and on a more long term basis.

I now have a really good group assembled as students for my UKCC Level 3 which I'm currently working through and I'm looking forward to helping that group develop and work towards their personal goals over the next 12 months.

What's after my UKCC Level 3? Well at present the BCU don't have a UKCC Level 4 so I'll be going for the Level 5 training and assessment in the next 12-18 months unless something develops in the new UKCC scheme...

I think the UKCC scheme has brought some really strong positives, giving us as coaches the tools to run more student centric sessions and also better equip coaches for our role in life... coaching a varied population of students that have individual needs.
